Ticket Sales: 6 Million USD

Written and directed by Chan Hing Kai, All’s Well Ends Well 2011 is an urban romantic comedy showcasing a stellar cast that includes Donnie Yen, Carina Lau, Chapman To, Lynn Hung, Yan Ni and Irene Wang. The latest edition is also notable for featuring the comeback of Cecilia Cheung after being embroiled in the highly publicised Edison Chen sex scandal in 2008.

The story is sparked by an oil tycoon’s decision to start a business for his girlfriend, which, in turn, brings hilarious changes to the lives of others. When Ken (Raymond Wong) pays for his girlfriend Dream (Yan) to start a business, she hires Sammy (Koo), a famed make-up artist who anchors a very popular beauty show, to head her new cosmetics company. There, Sammy meets Claire (Cheung), a temp who ends up as his assistant. Sammy ropes in his fellow make-up artist and buddy Ron (Yen), who is a babe magnet but continues to carry a torch for his first love Mona (Lau), a novelist.

Big stars and boisterous fun are the hallmarks of the All’s Well Ends Well festive films. In that sense, there will be happy ending for all the couples, so no surprise there. Yet in this film, the comedic acts seem to be more forceful and ended up not as funny as it tries to convey. The highlight of the movie is the parody of Ip Man, where Donnie Yen putting make-up on 10 faces all at the same time. An interesting iconic scene indeed!
